Mission Statement
The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, incorporated in 1981, is a nonprofit charitable organization committed to the premise that all persons have the right to adequate nutrition. The Food Bank is dedicated to:
- The distribution of food to people in need in northwest Pennsylvania through a network of nonprofit charitable agencies.
- The elimination of food waste through the acquisition, transportation, storage and distribution of food which otherwise may be wasted.
In 1982, the first year of operation, Second Harvest distributed 444,916 pounds of food to 40 agencies. During fiscal year 2009-10, Second Harvest distributed 7.7 million pounds of food to 254 member agencies.
