PLEASE PASS THIS INFORMATION ON TO YOUR FOOD SERVICE STAFF: Notice to On-site Agencies about Soup Donation: Italian Wedding Soup 12/18.5oz. and Italian Chickarina Soup (a type of chicken noodle soup) 6/18.5oz and Beef Pot Roast Country Vegetable Soup – 12/18.5 oz.
These are all Progresso Label Soups.
General Mills, the manufacturer of these soups, informed us that the plastic liner underneath the lid may peel off when opening the cans. While this is most unlikely, it could then fall into the soup. Therefore, all on-site feeding staff should be notified to open the product can with care. If the plastic lining does peel away, simply discard the lining and heat the product in the normal way. It will have no effect on the taste, quality, consistency, or nutritional value of the soup.

FOOD PANTRIES: When distributing refrigerated and frozen products, please keep these items frozen and refrigerated as close to distribution time as possible. We received a call from a food pantry client that she received defrosted meat products from a food pantry. If you are unable to do this at your facility, please do not order and distribute these items.

FOOD PANTRIES: When distributing frozen Pizza Logs or Pierogies, please give clients the paper with the ingredient statement and preparation and cooking information on it. Papers should be included with your signed invoice that you receive when you pick up your order or included in the case with the product. Please convey this to your volunteers who are distributing the product.

The sour cream and cottage cheese on inventory is safe, nutritious, fresh and wholesome. It was donated because the grams of fat per serving may be lower than is stated on the label.

All kinds of soup on inventory are good one year past the date on the can. Please let clients know this when they receive these products.
