In order to do a project for the Food Bank, we ask that
you let us know what you are doing and when you are doing it so that we
can enter your project into our Bread
Box Awards.

general information, Activity Pages and other
material for use in the classroom please visit
our Resources
page.
Every fall, just before school begins, we send out
letters to all area schools. Along with these letters are forms
that you can fill out and send back in to let us know what you are
doing. We like to see what you are doing, and participate as much
as possible. By letting us know that you are doing a project, we
have the opportunity to help out, or come see you to say thank you.
How do I get my
students excited about community service?
The easiest way to get your class excited about community service is for you
to get excited about community service! Think up fun activities to help
the kids understand just what it is that they are doing, who it is helping, and
why they should want to help.
Some schools have held inter-class competitions to get their students
excited. These seem to work very well, especially between grade
levels. Pizza parties, hat days, "one free homework assignment"
coupons, and assemblies all tend to motivate.
Food Bank representatives are always available to come to your classroom and
play the "Hunger Game" with your class
before or after you do a fundraising project or food collection. This game teaches kids
about the distribution of wealth in our country and what effect it has on
the food supply to people in different income levels. The "Hunger
Game" also shows them how important
their contributions are to the Food Bank.
If you did not receive a letter from us, or if you
did, but would like another form, you can visit our resource
page.
Best of luck with your projects!
