Volunteers

There are many different volunteer opportunities available to individuals and groups at Second Harvest Food Bank of NW PA.  Approximately 70 regular volunteers donate their time during one single work week. On Saturday Volunteer Days (September through May), which are held once a month, groups from businesses, schools, churches, and organizations can schedule times to volunteer together.

What are the different duties volunteers perform
at the Food Bank?
Labeling: Often the Food Bank receives shipments of canned products that are not labeled. Volunteers label the items so that  they can be distributed to the agencies.
Office Work: This consists of typical office jobs: receptionist, filing, typing, sorting, using the copier, writing thank you notes, and bulk mailing.
Packaging: Many products donated to the Food Bank come in bulk packaging.  The volunteers repack the food into family sized containers for distribution to agencies.
Salvage: The Food Bank receives large boxes of assorted salvage items (i.e. dented cans, damaged boxes, and out of season products). These items are carefully checked, and the items that are in good, usable condition are sorted into categories.
Truck Driver: The Food Bank receives donations from local businesses and grocery stores on a daily basis.  Volunteers are needed to pick up these items.

If you would like to volunteer, either for a few hours or on a regular basis, or if your group would like to volunteer, call the Food Bank,
(814) 459-3663, Monday through Friday between
8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to schedule a time.
